BCT's Wurlitzer Theatre Organ

Bremerton Community Theatre is unique in that it possesses a genuine theatre pipe organ. In the days of the silent movies, theatres all over the country sported an organ to present live background music for the "silent" movies of their time.

We have used this organ for concerts, silent movies, and background music for some shows. In October of 1999, we presented the Lon Chaney (1925) version of the Phantom of the Opera, with John Nafie at the console. This has been a regular event at the theatre, which is performed every 4 or 5 years.

It was built by the Robert Morton Company of Van Nuys, California (one of Wurlitzer's competitors) and was originally installed in the Liberty Theatre in Pasco, Washington in 1921. It was removed from the Liberty Theatre in the 1930s and somewhere in its life acquired parts from Wurlitzer, Morton, Kimball, Smith and Reisner, and others.  At BCT it currently has 11 ranks of pipes playing.
